What this sheet checks

What is the duplex printer test page?

A duplex printer test page is a two-page diagnostic job printed on the front and back of one sheet with matching targets and directional labels used to check two-sided orientation, front-to-back registration and show-through.

  • Correct front and back orientation
  • Front-to-back target registration
  • Second-pass paper shift or skew
  • Ghosting and visible show-through
When to use it

When to use the duplex test page

Enable two-sided printing in the system print dialog before starting. Page one and page two use matching targets and directional labels so you can verify the chosen flip edge and hold the sheet to light to judge front-to-back alignment.

Common duplex printing problems and how to fix them

Compare the physical sheet with the on-screen structure. Paper, driver settings, supplies, and maintenance state can all affect the result.

What you seeWhat it may meanWhat to do next
The reverse side is upside downThe selected long-edge or short-edge flip mode does not match the document orientation.Switch the duplex flip-edge option and print one new two-page test.
Front and back targets do not overlap under lightThe duplex paper path introduces horizontal, vertical, or angular registration shift.Reload square paper and run the printer's duplex or registration adjustment if available.
Back-side content is strongly visible through the frontThe paper is too light or output density is too high for the intended duplex job.Use more opaque paper or reduce density within the document's quality requirements.

How to print the duplex test page accurately at 100% scale

Load clean, uncreased paper and choose the same paper size in this page, your browser, and the printer driver. Open the print dialog, select 100% or Actual size, and enable background graphics so solid patches and gradients are retained. Use the paper type that matches the sheet in the tray.

Start with normal quality. Draft mode intentionally reduces density, while high-quality or photo modes can use different passes and inks. A standard print establishes a useful baseline before you change driver controls or run maintenance.

Frequently asked questions about this printer test page

How many sheets should the duplex test use?

With automatic duplex enabled, the two print pages should land on the front and back of one physical sheet. Without duplex enabled, they will print on separate sheets and cannot test the duplexer.

Should I choose long-edge or short-edge flipping?

For a portrait document read like a book, long-edge flipping is typical. Short-edge flipping is commonly used for pages turned upward like a calendar.

What this browser test page can and cannot tell you

This page reveals visible output symptoms but cannot read ink levels, identify a failed component, or control your printer. Built-in manufacturer diagnostics are model-specific and should be used for maintenance decisions. Avoid repeating deep cleaning cycles without consulting the applicable printer guidance because cleaning can consume substantial ink.
